Martingale Gambling Strategy

General concept of the strategy

The Martingale strategy is a betting management system in gambling. Following the Martingale strategy, the player should raise the bets until he wins.

History

The strategy has been known since at least the middle of the 18th century and comes from the French word “martingale”.

The essence of the strategy

The essence of the strategy is that the player must double the bet after each loss until he wins.

For example, the player makes a bet of €1 on black at roulette. If the ball lands on red, the player places a bet of €2 on black, and so on.

In this case, the player’s bets always increase according to the principle of €1, €2, €4, €8, €16, €32, €64, and so on.

Advantages of the strategy

At first glance, it may seem that this is a win-win strategy. But this is not the case.

The thing is, in every live casino game, there is a table limit for minimum and maximum bets.

The player can win with this strategy if he has enough time until he reaches the table limit.

Disadvantages of the strategy

As mentioned above, the player can reach the table limit.

Let’s say the roulette table limit is from €1 to €2,000.

When placing bets on even odds, like an even number, the player bets:

  • €1
  • €2
  • €4
  • €8
  • €16
  • €32
  • €64
  • €128
  • €256
  • €512
  • €1,024

If the player doesn’t win in 11 steps, he can no longer make a bet of €2,048, since he has reached the table limit.

As a result, the player loses €2,047 on his bets.
